2027 Corvette Grand Sport Returns With 535 Horsepower And A New Hybrid Grand Sport X

There are certain names in the performance car universe that mean more than trim badges and decal packages. The Corvette Grand Sport is one of them. For generations, it has represented a kind of sweet spot in the Corvette lineup. Not the bare-bones entry point. Not the all-out, headline-chasing monster at the top of the range. Instead, Grand Sport has traditionally been the Corvette for drivers who want the best parts of the fast car, without giving up the ability to live with it every day. Chevrolet clearly understands the weight of that history, because for 2027 the Grand Sport is back, and this time it arrives in two distinct forms.

The first is the traditionalist’s choice: a rear-wheel-drive Corvette Grand Sport powered by a naturally aspirated 6.7-liter LS6 V8. The second is something new entirely: the Corvette Grand Sport X, which adds electrified all-wheel drive and turns the formula into a 721-horsepower missile with old-school naming and very new-school intent.

The headline engine is the new LS6, a 6.7-liter small-block V8 that becomes the primary engine not only for Grand Sport, but also for the 2027 Stingray. Chevrolet says it produces 535 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful naturally aspirated standard Corvette engine yet. Bigger displacement, a 13.0:1 compression ratio, a 95-mm throttle body, tunnel-ram intake, forged internals, and a revised lubrication system all suggest this is more than a routine update. It is Chevrolet making the case that the small-block still has a lot of life left in it.

The Spirit of Analog Driving Lives

At a time when performance is increasingly filtered through software, battery packs, and artificial soundtracks, the Grand Sport still leans into the visceral appeal that made Corvette an icon in the first place. A naturally aspirated V8. Rear-wheel drive. A chassis tuned for real drivers. The kind of formula that still makes grown adults take the long way home for no reason other than the road is there.

The standard Corvette Grand Sport sounds like the one enthusiasts will gravitate toward first. Magnetic Ride Control comes standard, paired with a touring suspension and Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season 4 tires, which should make it civilized enough for road trips and daily duty. For buyers who plan to spend more time clipping apexes than collecting parking receipts, Chevrolet offers the Z52 Sport Performance Package and a more aggressive Z52 Track Performance Package. The latter adds carbon-ceramic brakes, Cup 2R tires, more focused chassis tuning, and carbon-fiber aero pieces that make this the most track-capable Grand Sport Chevrolet has ever built.

The Grand Sport X, Brings the Technology

Rather than treating electrification as a compromise, Chevrolet uses it here as a performance tool. The Grand Sport X combines the LS6 V8 with a front electric motor and compact battery pack derived from the Corvette ZR1X, creating an electrified all-wheel-drive setup with a combined 721 horsepower. That gives the car instant front-axle torque, stronger launches, better corner-exit traction, and the sort of all-weather capability that previous generations of Grand Sport could only dream about. It also gives Chevrolet a new naming convention, with the “X” badge now signifying eAWD across the Corvette range.

This is not some half-hearted hybrid apology car, either. Chevrolet says the Grand Sport X includes selectable strategies for track use, including Endurance, Qualifying, and Push-to-Pass. It also offers a Stealth mode that allows quiet electric-only operation up to 50 mph. Yes, the Corvette can now sneak out of the neighborhood without waking everyone up. Your local Cars and Coffee crowd may never emotionally recover.

Visually, Chevrolet appears to have handled the heritage side of the equation with more care than usual. Grand Sport hash marks remain part of the identity, but on the C8 they move to the rear of the car, a nod to the fact that the V8 now sits behind the cockpit. Admiral Blue Metallic returns from the archives, allowing for the familiar blue body, white center stripe, and red hash-mark look that longtime Corvette fans will recognize instantly. A new Pitch Gray Metallic joins the palette, and Launch Edition cars receive a particularly dramatic Santorini Blue-dipped interior that sounds about as subtle as a brass band in a church pew. In other words, exactly right for a special Corvette.

There is also a broader strategic point here. Chevrolet is not positioning Grand Sport as a niche curiosity. The company says Stingray and Grand Sport combined are expected to account for the vast majority of Corvette sales. That makes this launch important not just because of nostalgia, but because it signals where the heart of the Corvette lineup is heading. More power. More capability. More technology. Still recognizably Corvette. That may be the most interesting part of all.

The original Grand Sport was born in the early 1960s as a lightweight racing Corvette built in tiny numbers for competition. Over time, the name came to stand for a road car that borrowed heavily from Corvette’s highest-performing variants while remaining accessible enough to enjoy on ordinary roads. The 2027 version keeps that spirit intact, even as the formula evolves. One model stays loyal to the purist template. The other pushes into a new electrified future without giving up its V8 heartbeat.

That is the balancing act every modern performance car has to attempt. Corvette, perhaps more than most, cannot afford to get it wrong. Based on what Chevrolet has outlined here, the new Grand Sport and Grand Sport X do not feel like departures from the legend. They feel like the next logical chapter. And that is exactly what a Grand Sport should be.
