Frank Stephenson Design has revealed its second collaboration with Bovensiepen, supporting the design development of the new Bovensiepen Spider. The new open-top model follows the recently unveiled Bovensiepen 05 GT and continues the design relationship established during that project. While the two cars are intended to have distinct personalities, the Spider carries forward the same emphasis on proportion, presence, surface treatment, and the balance between performance and refinement.
Rather than simply translating the 05 GT into another body style, the design team approached the Spider as a separate challenge. Euan McPherson, Design Team Lead at Frank Stephenson Design, explained that the existing relationship between the two teams provided a foundation, but the new car required its own visual solution.
The goal was to give the Spider a purposeful, confident appearance without pushing the design toward unnecessary aggression. Changes focused on strengthening the car’s stance, refining its proportions, and introducing graphic and surface details that create a more distinctive presence. That approach appears to be becoming part of Bovensiepen’s emerging design identity.
Andreas Bovensiepen, one of the company’s managing directors, said the decision to work with Frank Stephenson Design again came from the trust established during development of the 05 GT. He described the studio’s ability to combine visual impact with the restraint and sophistication Bovensiepen is seeking for its cars. For Frank Stephenson, the second project is also an important step in creating something larger than a one-off design exercise.
“When a client comes back to you for a second project, it is one of the clearest signs that the creative relationship is working,” Stephenson said.
The Spider gave the team an opportunity to take ideas established during development of the 05 GT and apply them to a fundamentally different vehicle. Stephenson emphasized that design continuity does not necessarily mean repeating the same shapes. Instead, it means identifying the principles behind the original design and adapting them to a new application.

Building a Bovensiepen Design Language
That distinction could prove increasingly important if the Spider and 05 GT represent the beginnings of a broader Bovensiepen model family.
For a relatively young automotive identity, recognizable proportions and surface treatments can help create visual continuity without forcing every vehicle into the same template. The Spider’s development suggests Bovensiepen and Frank Stephenson Design are attempting to establish that kind of relationship early.
The project also expands Frank Stephenson Design’s renewed involvement in the automotive world. According to the studio, the Spider joins a growing portfolio that includes bespoke vehicles, limited-production projects, and broader automotive design programs.
The company describes its second Bovensiepen commission as evidence that the partnership is developing beyond a single vehicle, with the 05 GT establishing the first chapter and the Spider extending that relationship into a longer-term collaboration.
For enthusiasts, the more interesting question will be what comes next. Two cars are enough to begin seeing the outlines of a design language. A third could establish whether Bovensiepen is building something instantly recognizable.
