Jeep has planted its flag in electric territory with the debut of the 2026 Jeep Recon, the first fully electric Trail Rated SUV in the industry. This is not a crossover dressed in camo. It is built to wheel, climb, and kick sand in the face of range anxiety. Jeep claims 650 horsepower, 620 lb ft of torque, and a 0 to 60 time as low as 3.6 seconds. That is supercar territory hiding behind a seven-slot grille.

Designed on an all-electric architecture, the Jeep Recon brings the spirit of the 4xe era into full EV form. Power goes to all four wheels through electric drive modules front and rear, and the Selec Terrain traction management system offers five modes suited for everything from icy commutes to Moab red rock. Jeep promises an estimated 250-mile range, depending on trim. In other words, enough for a full day of adventure and a slow victory cruise back into town for dinner.

Bob Broderdorf, the Jeep CEO, frames it this way. Electrification is not a compromise for off-road performance. It is an upgrade. Instant torque, precise throttle control, and a quiet cabin transform the off-road experience.

Jeep Recon: Capable Where It Counts

The Recon’s drivetrain pairs a 100-kilowatt-hour battery pack with Stellantis-designed EDM units at both axles. Each EDM produces 250 kilowatts and includes the motor, gearing, and power electronics in a single compact housing. The Moab trim gets a rear EDM with a 15:1 final drive ratio for extra torque multiplication when things get rough. There is also a locking differential for the rear axle. Flip a switch, and it goes from open to fully locked.

Ground clearance on the Jeep Recon Moab spec reaches 9.1 inches thanks to 33-inch tires and a suspension setup designed for both street manners and trail confidence. Approach angle is 33.8 degrees, departure angle is 33.1 degrees, and breakover checks in at 23.3. The Recon also comes with Selec Speed Control for managing steep inclines and declines without riding the brakes. Software does the pacing. You do the steering.

Traction profiles include Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand, and Rock. Rock mode even enables a two-pedal off-road driving technique and a hill hold feature for those moments when gravity tries to negotiate.

Design: Heritage Meets High Voltage

The Jeep Recon looks like someone sent a Wrangler to finishing school with a scholarship from Silicon Valley. Big glass areas improve outward visibility, and the front end carries an illuminated take on the classic seven-slot grille. Premium LED lighting is standard.

The open-air tradition continues with a dual-pane sunroof or an available Sky One Touch power top. What sets it apart from anything else in the EV world is simple. Completely removable doors, swing gate glass, and rear quarter glass with no tools required. That alone will win over Jeep loyalists and lure in new explorers.

Gloss Black accents give contrast, while the Moab trim adds topographical Jeep badging, wheel flares, and an anti-glare hood graphic. Wrangler-inspired LED taillamps sit beside a proper swing gate carrying a full-size spare. Again, no compromises.

Jeep says the color palette will rotate regularly, featuring both expressive hues and rugged neutrals. Expect paint names that sound like hiking trails.

Interior: Utility With a Tech Edge

Inside the Jeep Recon, you get a horizontal dash layout anchored by a stout grab handle on the passenger side. Materials lean rugged but refined with Capri synthetic surfaces, recycled content, and scuff-resistant textures. The Moab trim debuts a Joshua Tree tan interior pulled directly from a design trip to the national park that inspired it.

Storage is innovative and flexible. A two-tiered center console allows room for gear, while modular door panels with elastic straps keep essentials close. Fold the second row seats, and the cargo space reaches 65.9 cubic feet. There is even a front trunk sized for a carry-on suitcase.

Perhaps the best trick is the audio system. The premium Alpine setup is standard, and the speakers live under the seats instead of in the doors. That means the soundtrack keeps playing even after the doors are tossed in the garage.

Technology: Trail Meets Touchscreen

The digital side of the Jeep Recon has the same sense of purpose as the suspension. There are more than 26 inches of total high-definition screen space, including a 12.3-inch driver cluster with custom menus and a 14.5-inch touchscreen center display. This is the largest single usable screen ever fitted to a Jeep.

Controls for HVAC are digital, but volume and tuning knobs remain right where drivers want them. Uconnect 5 powers the infotainment with sharp graphics, large tactile buttons, and better camera visibility for off-road navigation.

A new Trails Offroad app offers a library of trails across the U.S. and Canada with pitch and roll mapping. Dynamic Range Mapping, powered by TomTom, shows charging locations with planning intelligence built in. Alexa functionality is integrated, and the latest Jeep app supports roadside assistance, maintenance scheduling, and safety alerts.

Pricing and Availability

Starting at $65,000 before destination. Production begins early next year at the Toluca Assembly Plant with launch markets set for the U.S. and Canada first, followed by global expansion. The Jeep Recon is positioned as a halo for the electric future. It carries the heritage. It offers freedom. It has the horsepower to back it up. Electric off-roading just got interesting, but will it be enough to convert those who don’t trust or want an all-electric?
