When the team behind Luftgekuhlt 11 announced they were finally heading east, the Porsche faithful started making travel plans. This Saturday, October 4, the air-cooled celebration lands at the historic American Tobacco Campus in Durham, North Carolina, marking the first-ever East Coast edition of the world’s most coveted Porsche gathering.
Luftgekuhlt 11: A Historic Setting for a Legendary Brand
The brick warehouses and ironwork of the American Tobacco Campus will serve as a striking backdrop for more than 400 air-cooled Porsches, ranging from early 356 models to race-bred icons like the 917/30, 962, and 934. The event also celebrates the U.S. anniversary of the Type-993 911, the final air-cooled generation of Porsche’s flagship.
It’s more than a car show; it’s a cultural gathering for designers, racers, engineers, and dreamers who share a deep connection to Stuttgart’s greatest creations. Visitors can expect to see cars from legendary names like Rahal, Holbert, and Penske, all displayed throughout the sprawling venue.

Racing Royalty on Stage
The lineup of guest appearances reads like a highlight reel from Porsche’s racing history. Indy 500 champion and team owner Bobby Rahal will take the main stage for an interview about his 1964 Porsche 904 Carrera GTS, which will also be on display. Fellow racer Tommy Kendall will join Luft co-founder Patrick Long for a conversation on racing and Porsche’s enduring legacy.
The day also includes special sessions in the 1948 Lounge, presented by The Ingram Experience, where Rahal and Kendall will meet with fans in an intimate setting. The lounge honors the late Bob Ingram, a beloved Durham figure and Porsche collector whose legacy continues through his sons Rory and Cam Ingram.
The Mobil 1 Theater: Where Film Meets Speed
Motorsport storytelling takes center stage at the Mobil 1 Theater, featuring two premiere screenings. “Relentless (Project EVO),” premiering at 10 a.m., chronicles Betim Berisha and BBI Autosports’ pursuit of performance perfection and their Pikes Peak exploits with filmmaker Jeff Zwart. Later in the day, “Powering Icons: Dieter Inzenhofer” explores the life of the Andial co-founder whose engineering genius helped define Porsche’s golden era of racing. Inzenhofer will join Zwart for a live Q&A and autograph session.

The Mighty 917/30 Takes the Spotlight
Among the headline cars, few are more jaw-dropping than the Porsche 917/30; the “Turbo Panzer” that dominated the 1973 Can-Am season under Team Penske. With over 1,100 horsepower and a top speed north of 220 mph, it remains one of the most fearsome race cars ever built. Attendees will have a rare opportunity to see and hear the car up close as it makes an appearance at Luft 11.
Tag Heuer Celebrates the Spirit of the Carrera
Inside Bay 7, Tag Heuer will present an immersive exhibit dedicated to the shared history of Porsche and the Carrera name. The display includes rare timepieces and the 1953 Porsche 550 Coupe chassis 001 from the Revs Institute, a car that raced at both Le Mans and the Carrera Panamericana—two events that helped define the spirit of endurance racing.
