Restoring a car is a monumental task, restoring it the right way, means having the right set of skills, tools, and patience to make sure it is done right. E-Type UK has recently resurrected a barn-find 1964 Jaguar E-type Series 1 3.8 Coupe. One of the most prized cars from the golden era of sportscars was left languishing in a garage for over 40 years.
The car was thought to be a well-preserved example until extensive sandblasting and stripping revealed what time can do to even a car protected from elements. This E-Type left the factory in Opalescent Silver Blue with a matching blue leather interior. The new owner opted to give the car a more dramatic Oxblood Red leather interior as well as a match red racing stripe around the grille opening, in a nod to the original E-Type Lightweights.
A restoration like this is a real challenge for our team; 40 years of inactivity takes an enormous toll on every single part of a vehicle. But customers come to us to make their dream car a reality, so we will take it apart piece-by-piece, clean and improve everything we can save and replace everything that we can’t with better-than-original quality. Not only are we delighted to have delivered our client a car they’ve always wanted, but we’re honored to have played a part in keeping this piece of British motoring history on the road, and being used regularly, for many years to come.
Other improvements included uprated Independent Rear Suspension, performance brake calipers, and brake pads. The original 3.8-liter XK6 engine was fitted with high-lift cams, a balanced and lightened crank and new seals, all of which will help with driveability and reliability. Also fitted were a new five-speed gearbox for tighter shifts and more refined cruising, a new full stainless-steel sports exhaust and an aluminum radiator and header tank for enhanced cooling.
