When rain washed out qualifying at the NHRA Finals at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip, one thing remained clear: Doug Kalitta had already earned his place as the man to beat. With the cancellation of qualifying, Kalitta officially claimed his second NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series Top Fuel World Championship and cemented a legacy built on speed, consistency, and a refusal to slow down.
This victory marks his second title in the last three seasons and pushes Kalitta deeper into NHRA history. It also delivered more hardware to Kalitta Motorsports and Toyota: the team’s sixth championship overall, and Toyota’s ninth Top Fuel title since joining the NHRA ranks in 2007.
“Yeah, this (clinching the championship before race day) is definitely a lot easier (than 2023). It’s always seemed to come down to the last race, last day, but we had a nice string of runs throughout the Countdown. Alan (Johnson, crew chief) and my whole Mac Tools Toyota team have had my car going down the track. It’s been really nice, and just getting good, solid runs. Alan is always throwing down and always has something up his sleeve. So, I’m just really proud of him and my whole team. It’s a huge relief to be able to win the championship before the last round at the last race, and we’re all just super happy, ” said Doug Kalitta, Mac Tools Toyota Top Fuel Dragster.
Kalitta didn’t just win, he dominated. His remarkable season proves that experience still beats algorithms and instincts still matter when the lights drop.

A Season Defined by Wins and Records
Doug Kalitta’s 2025 campaign was far more than a points race. It was a masterclass in precision drag racing and championship focus.

Toyota and Kalitta Motorsports: A Proven Powerhouse
Kalitta’s title adds another chapter to Toyota’s legacy in Top Fuel racing. Since 2007 Toyota has collected nine championships in the category, including:
- Larry Dixon (2010)
- Del Worsham (2011)
- Antron Brown (2012, 2015, 2016, 2024)
- Shawn Langdon (2013)
- Doug Kalitta (2023, 2025)
Kalitta Motorsports now holds six NHRA championships overall — and four specifically in Top Fuel — reinforcing its role as a dominant force on the dragstrip.
What This Championship Means for the Future of NHRA
Kalitta’s performance this season signals a telling shift in Top Fuel: veteran drivers are still the benchmark, and consistency beats chaos. In a sport shaped by fractions of a second, Kalitta proved that calculated aggression wins a title more reliably than raw power.
His 2025 run feels like the opening chapters of something bigger. Two championships are impressive. Three becomes legacy territory. And judging by his pace this season, he’s not done chasing history.
