RM Auctions has just added images of the 1965 Ford GT Roadster prototype to their catalog for Monterey this August. The 8th of 12 GT40 prototypes built; a very original example with more than two decades in single ownership. This is the same car used by Shelby American for testing and development; Driven by Ken Miles, Carroll Shelby, and Jim Clark. Chassis 108 has the distinction of being the only prototype that was never officially raced by Ford.
GT/108 was the first of the roadster style cars, built in March of 1965. It was first delivered to Carroll Shelby for testing Silverstone by John Whitmore and Dickie Atwood, and by Ken Miles at Riverside in 1965. The car was the official test car for the ZF transaxle the transaxle that would go one to be used in all production GTs.
Only four roadsters were built, this car is the only intact example that still carries the correct 1965-style nose, and the low tail section unique to roadsters.
The car will be offered for sale after being held by a private collector for decades this August at Monterey Car week. See the official listing HERE
