Be Cool Like Steve McQueen

Steve McQueen, the rough-but-oh-so-smooth King of Cool, had a large personal collection of Persol sunglasses. No surprises there—they probably looked great with his leather jackets and racing motorcycles. But after showing up on set for “Thomas Crowne Affair” in 1968 wearing a pair of folding PO 0714s, the combination of those shades on that face became an iconic pairing. A new special edition helps you revisit that classic look with the return of the blue lens, McQueen’s favorite. This model also features distinctive “Supreme Arrow” outside-in folding hinges on the frames and McQueen’s signature can be seen inside the arms near the temple. Beside classic black, the special-edition shades also come in light or dark Havana tortoiseshell . While a pair of McQueen’s own Persols were sold at auction for $70,000, you can get the new PO 0714s at select retailers for a fraction of that price.

Steve McQueen Special Edition Sunglasses by Persol, $360 at www.barneys.com and select retailers.
