Junk Gypsy VW Art Car

If you have heard of the Junk Gypsies, it is likely due to their popular TV show that aired in 2012, but the Sikes sisters were famous for their eclectic designs and unique collection of salvaged finds, years before their stint on reality TV. Their funky style attracted the attention of major stars in the world of country music, including celebrities like Miranda Lambert, Dierks Bentley, and rocker Billie Joe Armstrong.

Today their empire, which they call Gypsyville, includes their flagship store, a hotel property the Wander Inn, and collaborations with QVC, Lane Boots, and others. But what non-car people might not notice is how many automotive and motorcycle parts make it into their designs, from light fixtures made out of old motorcycle gas tanks to old pickups used in their artwork. But cars themselves have also been a big part of the Junk Gypsy story from their old pink Chevy Suburban, to this latest art car painted by Texas artist Sean Starr to help promote the brand’s new line of automotive accessories that are sold at Bucees.

The classic Volkswagen was taken as found and painted by hand to be displayed in their flagship store in Round Top, Texas. Justin Praesel got it rolling and replaced the broken lights and missing parts. This classic beetle sports a one-of-a-kind design inspired by Sean’s travels across India and traditional western sign painting. If you have a chance to stop in and see it, look for all of the nods to Texas culture that were included in the design. Also be sure to check out the ever-changing collection of vehicles that are parked out front, some for sale, others just part of the decore.
