Michael SatterfieldEmily like most of us picked up her passion for cars from her father, while he was more into the latest sportscars, Emily fell in love with the styling and personality of classics. Her dream car, when she was a little girl, was a Volkswagen Beetle, which she purchased when she turned 19 with a small loan from her grandmother. The 1983 Beetle was a limited edition in all black. After spending a few years fixing up the Beetle, it was time for something new and it was while she was on vacation on the Spanish island of Tenerife that she spotted a 1970 Seat 600e, which is a Spanish-built Fiat 600 that Seat produced under license.
After returning home to Germany and having sold the Beetle to a friend, Emily couldn’t stop thinking about the little 600 and called a friend in Tenerife to see if the car was still for sale. She ended up buying the car over the phone and having it shipped from Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, all the way to Hamburg by ship, then it was trucked to her hometown of Cologne.
Shortly after her dream car arrived home in Germany, Emily was hired as an on-air personality covering motorsports events at the infamous Nürburgring, her broadcast work has covered GT Masters, VLN, DTM, 24hour race Nürburgring, VLN Nürburgring, Formula 3, Formula 4. Her favorite part of working in motorsports she says is the “lovely people and I love to smell the gasoline.”
Like many young people, the travel bug started to kick in so Emily started to look for a vehicle a little more capable than the 600. She settled on one of the most iconic offroaders every produced, a Land Rover Defender 110 TD5. She outfitted the Defender with a roof tent and hit the road with her boyfriend, traveling across Europe her road trips have taken her to Portugal, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Finnland, and all the way to Greece. Each year they pick a new destination and take about a month to explore it in their Land Rover.
Her boyfriend is also a racing driver so even when she is not working at the track, she is often trackside supporting his racing efforts. Emily has a German Language YouTube where she chronicles her adventures and you need to be following her on Instagram to keep up with her travels.
