Menswear brands you should be looking at

by Michael Satterfield – 02/07/2023

I spent most of the month of January on the road crisscrossing the country from Dallas, to Las Vegas, to Los Angeles, to Charleston. Packing is never fun, but over the years I have put together a versatile collection that allows me to mix and match multiple outfits for when I am on the road with just a few key pieces. Finding great brands can be hard, many guys just shop at the local retailer and if you are in a smaller rural community like I am that means that the choices are limited, but thankfully I do get to travel and visit incredible menswear stores across the country like Stag Provisions, Perlis, and Double RL locations around the world. If you are looking for some new brands to try, here are some of my favorite picks for 2023 in no particular order.

Billy Reid

Billy Reid Clothing Michael Satterfield The Gentleman Racer

Billy Reid is an amazing American clothing brand based in Florence, Alabama that is committed to classic American style and amazing attention to detail. The Shoals Denim Shirt ($198) has been part of the Billy Reid collection since 2004 and it offers a classic style that feels broken in from the first time you put it on. This Suede Racer Bomber Jacket ($1,498) has quickly become my favorite items in my wardrobe, it can be dressed up worn over a shirt and tie, or look great with just a classic tee shirt.

Billy Reid stores can be found across the US so visit their site to find retailers near you or to just Order Online Here.

Oliver Charles

Once you put one on it will be your new favorite sweater. Oliver Charles is an amazing American brand based in New York City that is knitting in New York, a rarity today. This classic Crew Neck Sweater ($250) comes in seven colors and is perfect to layer under a jacket and has an amazing texture. Comfort is maximized, thanks to a unique knitting process that eliminates all seams. Shop Online Here.

Texas Standard

Texas Standard Jeans
I did a story with Texas Standard a few years ago and ever since this Austin-based brand has been in my everyday wear rotation. The Standard Denim jeans ($145) are very high quality, fit amazing, and are made in the state of Texas. I have worn them with tee shirts and pullovers and dress shirts and sports coats, if you can’t have custom-made jeans these are about as close as you can get and they are priced very well for a USA-made product. Bearbottom Clothing

Bearbottom Clothing Chino Review
Some of the most comfortable Chinos you will ever own the Bearbottom Stretch Chino Pant ($65) comes in five colors and offers a tailored fit that can be dressed up or down. Perfect for travel and very comfortable for long cross-country flights. Bearbottom is based in Florida but manufactures overseas and has a great program that supports school meal programs in India where many of their garments are made. Shop Online Here.

M&P Speed Shop

M&P Speed Shop Apparel
My own brand M&P Speed Shop is of course always in my collection of clothing, I mean we do make some of the coolest tee shirts, and most of the stories behind them are personally connected to me and the cars I drive and adventures I go on. Vintage Inspired Tees ($36) are always a good choice when you are going casual and make a great base layer for your everyday casual look. Shop Online Here.

Accessories

Menswear Review

Smathers & Branson

One of my go-to accessory brands, I have several of their hats, key fobs, cufflinks, and my daily wallet is a Needlepoint Texas flag from S&B. This American Flag Needlepoint Hat ($40) is one of my personal favorites when I am wanting to wear a nice ball cap. Shop Online Here.

Heybo Outdoors

I was at a wholesale apparel market in Dallas when I ran across the Heybo Outdoors booth, a South Carolina company that is bringing back a lot of classic outdoor apparel, including a very cool retro camo duck hunting jacket. But what caught my eye was their colorful belts ($25). They offer a lot of style for the price point, and while they might not be heirloom quality you will hand down to your grandson, they are great for a pop of color and style for a season or two. I picked up one with a black lab pattern to remind me of my dog Bailey. Shop Online Here.

Maurice De Mauriac

One of my favorite watch brands also makes some of my favorite NATO Straps ($52) and matching Key Fobs ($26). Maurice De Mauriac watches can set you back thousands, but their unique race-inspired straps and key fobs are a great way to add a little style to your daily look, plus ordering from them is always a lot of fun, as you never know what else will be in the package. Blanchard Watches

While the strap might be Maurice De Mauriac, the watch itself is from another friend, Richard Blanchard Watches, I had to have this watch since it is called the Gentleman Racer ($325) it is offered in three dial colors and comes with a unique interchangeable bezel that allows the wearer to swap out different bezels for different racing series. It is very well made for the money and depending on the strap can be dressed up or down. Shop Online Here

Banton Frameworks

While I have several pairs of Sunglasses lately I have been wearing my Banton Frameworks glasses, while this particular model is not in production anymore, Banton has an amazing collection of glasses handmade in Japan ($386) that are similar to mine. All of their frames are made in the UK or Japan and are of amazing quality. Shop Online Here.

Grant Stone

I have several pairs of Grant Stone boots in my closet and while the Michigan-based brand is manufactured in Xiamen China their quality is second to none. This winter my go-to footwear has been their Walnut Bison Field Boot ($380) which features Goodyear-welt construction, a classic hunting boot look, and is made using American Bison hides.
