Assembly is easy and doesn’t require any special tools; it would be a great activity with a child and I think would make them appreciate the toy a little more since they”built it.” Installing real rubber tires, adding the tail lamps, clicking together the interior; it is fun to see each vehicle come together on the dining room table. The Beetle is 52 pieces and the Bus is 74 pieces including the characters and accessories. The bus will take a little longer to put together as it has more decals to install.

Both sets feature road trip themes and make me nostalgic for riding along in the backseat of my parent’s Volkswagen Beetle as a child. While PLAYMOBIL® is marketed as children’s toys, these models would be at home on the shelf of any automotive enthusiast or toy collector. The attention to detail, fit and finish, and overall size makes them perfect for any VW enthusiast, regardless of age. If you know classic Volkswagens you will appreciate how PLAYMOBIL captured so many of the elements of the original cars in these playsets. From the mini-kitchen in the camping bus to the VW logos on the hub caps, down to the patterns on the seat, they really captured the classic 60s Volkswagen.

While I really liked the look of these little classics sitting on my office shelf, I decided to take the PLAYMOBIL Volkswagens on a little road trip to photograph them as if the characters were on a trip in their classic cars. The best thing about PLAYMOBIL is that it does encourage kids (and some adults) to turn off the screens and engage in some classic imaginative playtime. The Volkswagen sets are sure to be collectible and have been selling fast, however, they can still be found at select Walmart locations while supplies last.
