Some cars spend their lives under covers, rolled out only for concours lawns and careful applause. Others get driven.

This Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing is one that has racked up some miles. It joined us on last year’s Round Top Rally, stretching its legs across Texas backroads after making the trip from California just a week before, exactly as its engineers intended in the 1950s. Long hood out front, mechanical symphony echoing off the countryside, doors that still stop conversations wherever they go.

Cars like this are what make the classic car world worth chasing. Not because they are rare or valuable, but because they are alive. They move, they gather stories, they remind you that these machines were never meant to sit in a museum. A Gullwing on the road is better than a Gullwing in a garage. Every time.

77 cars that actually raced between 1927 and 1957.

And a field led by Alfa Romeo, with legends from Ferrari, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche filling out what might be the most beautiful starting grid in motorsport.

At the center of it all, Andrea Vesco returns chasing a seventh straight win in a 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 SS. History doesn’t repeat itself here. It shows up, gets fueled, and runs flat out across Italy.

June 9 to 13. Brescia to Rome and back again. Five days where the past refuses to sit still.

The team at Apex Auto Works isn’t just taking on the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with a 1968 Plymouth Road Runner nicknamed “Big Bird”; they’re carrying a story up the mountain.

Built in just 94 days on a NASCAR chassis and powered by something far more serious than anything Plymouth ever imagined, this car is equal parts engineering experiment and emotional tribute.

For Richard Tomlin and Ben Ryan, the Road Runner isn’t just the right car for the job, it’s the only car. Both grew up around identical ’68 cars with their fathers, both lost those fathers too soon, and somehow that shared history turned into a mission: take the car that started it all and run it to the clouds.

Big Bird is proof that the best stories in motorsport aren’t written in boardrooms, they’re built in small shops with long nights and a reason to keep going. On Sunday night at Sebring, the air carries a particular kind of exhaustion. The kind that settles into your bones after twelve hours of noise, heat, and the steady percussion of cars skipping across concrete slabs poured during World War II. It is not glamorous. It is not forgiving. It is Sebring. Last year, somewhere between that fatigue and the long walk to the shuttle, there was a moment that felt incidental at the time but now reads like the first line of a longer story. Two men stood in line wearing Manthey Racing jackets, blending into the post-race haze. No entourage, no performance, just another pair of engineers or team members heading out. One of them introduced himself as Nicholas Raeder, CEO of Manthey Racing. They were not there to celebrate. They were there to study. They were looking for a way in.
