The Motolady’s Book of Women Who Ride

Alicia Mariah Elfving, founder of TheMotoLady.com and the Women’s Motorcycle Show, has been one of the biggest advocates for women motorcyclists and has released a new book: The Motolady’s Book of Women Who Ride. The book shares the stories of 74 women from the motorcycling world, linking the story of the pioneering women in the early days of motorcycling to the women of today who enjoy the freedom that comes with two wheels.

The profiles include riders such as:

  • The Van Buren Sisters, who in 1916, were among the first motorcyclists to ride coast to coast in the US and the first women to ride to the summit of Pikes Peak.
  • Valerie Thompson, the fastest woman on two wheels with an incredible eight land speed records and a top speed of 328 miles per hour.
  • Beryl Swain, the first female solo competitor in the infamous Isle of Man TT in 1962.
  • Porsche Taylor, founder of Black Girls Ride Magazine which was inspired by Bessie Springfield who road across the US in the 1930s.
  • Jessi Combs, fabricator, motorcyclist, and land speed record holder.
