Less is more these days with the Smart Car, the Abarth Ferrari Edition Fiat 500, Rolls Royce MINI Cooper, and now a subcompact Aston Martin. While we would much rather behind the wheel of an Aston with DB in the name the new Cygnet is an interesting concept based on (of all things) a Toyota iQ.

It looks like they may get this in production in 2010 in the UK and Europe…the USA is thus far left out of the Premium Subcompact Car, Built by a Super or Luxury Car Marker Segment… but you can always ad some cool badges and leather to your Scion and have basically the same thing. I just don’t know how long this trend will last, buying a Bespoke Toyota is like taking a $99 suit to Brooks Brother to be tailored. Sure it will be better than it was, but it just won’t be the same as the real thing.

I likely will never get to drive one, according to Aston Martin they are ambitiously hoping to find 4,000 buyers for this pintsized “Aston Martin” that is being built to help the British Brand hit European emissions requirements. Aston seems to think that current Aston Martin owners will be their primary buyers, but I am not seeing James Bond swapping a V8 Vantage for an Eco iQ.
