This limited-edition set features two 375ml bottles: one aged in Kentucky and the other in Texas, both originating from the same distillation batch. With only 800 cases available, enthusiasts can purchase the set for $149.99 through the Milam & Greene website, select retailers, or at the distillery in Blanco, Texas.
A Tale of Two Climates
In October 2019, Milam & Greene distilled a batch of bourbon in Bardstown, Kentucky, using a mash bill of 70% corn, 22% malted rye, and 8% malted barley. Half of this batch remained in Kentucky, while the other half was transported to Blanco, Texas, for aging. Over five years, the barrels experienced distinct climatic conditions:
- Kentucky: Characterized by colder winters and higher humidity, leading to slower evaporation rates (2–4% annually) and a final proof of 108.
- Texas: Known for hotter, drier conditions with rapid temperature fluctuations, resulting in higher evaporation rates (up to 10% annually) and a final proof of 116.
Chemical analyses revealed that the Texas-aged bourbon had higher concentrations of compounds contributing to woody and intense flavors, while the Kentucky-aged bourbon exhibited more fruity and floral notes.
