Bulova Racer Chronograph Hands On Review

The Bulova Racer Chronograph collection pays homage to the brand’s rich motorsport heritage, blending vintage-inspired aesthetics with modern functionality. Our team was part of the launch of this collection; if you have seen the ads running for Bulova and some of their retailers with the Bulova race car, that’s me behind the wheel. So, we have had early access to this watch since before the launch. Even if we hadn’t worked with Bulova on this project, the Racer would still be one of our favorite new watches of 2024. This collection features three distinct models, each designed to cater to different style preferences while maintaining a unified theme of speed and precision.

All three models share a 42mm case diameter, offering a contemporary wrist presence without being overly bulky. The cases are contoured to evoke the aerodynamic curves of high-performance automobiles, a nod to Bulova’s history in auto racing. A two-tone orange and black tachymeter ring encircles the bezel, providing both a functional tool for measuring speed and a striking visual contrast. The pronounced pushers enhance the automotive aesthetic and facilitate easy operation of the chronograph functions.

The Bulova Racer dials are meticulously designed for optimal readability and style. Each watch features a 5-hand chronograph layout with subdials displaying chronograph minutes and a 24-hour time indicator. A date window is positioned at 6 o’clock for added practicality. The bold orange chronograph seconds hand ensures clear legibility, while applied silver-tone markers and beveled hands, filled with luminescent material, provide visibility in low-light conditions.
