In the realm of classic cars, few names carry the weight and prestige of Aston Martin. The upcoming H&H Classics 30th-anniversary sale promises to be an automotive spectacle, and one particular gem stealing the spotlight is the exceptionally rare 1949 Aston Martin 2/2.6-Litre Sports ‘DB1’. This vintage beauty, representing the zenith of ‘David Brown’ era models, will grace the auction block at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, on September 20, with an estimated value of $125,000 – $175,000.

What makes this Aston Martin DB1 truly exceptional is not just its timeless design but also its captivating history. For almost three decades, it has been under the care of its current owner. Before that, it was in the hands of the illustrious Shaun Magee, a former racing car driver and an engineer for Aston Martin. This car, known by its chassis number AMC/49/8, is the eighth of a mere 15 DB1 cars ever created.

Under its hood lies a 2.6-litre DOHC straight-six powerplant, a testament to the engineering prowess of Magee himself, who installed it during the 1970s. The car also boasts a period-correct re-bodying by the Swallow Coachbuilding Company.

But what truly makes this offering extraordinary is the prospect it holds for its next owner. ‘DB149’ is more than just a classic car; it’s an exciting restoration project. Once revived, it has the potential to make a triumphant return to the world of prestigious motoring events, cementing its place in the annals of automotive history.

Damian Jones, Senior Motorcar Specialist at H&H Classics, expressed the significance of this sale, stating, “As part of our 30th-anniversary sale, it seems only fitting that we are able to offer such a stunning and rare car, which has been in the same ownership for almost the same amount of time as our existence.”
