I love getting out of the city, escaping the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immersing myself in a world of fine wine, amazing food, and beautiful scenery, thankfully for me, Chapelton Vineyards is just 35 minutes from my front door. Tucked away on a picturesque 75-acre ranch, just a short distance from Houston, this enchanting destination is the brainchild of attorney Kurt and Dr. Michelle Lyn. Originally conceived as their private weekend escape from the fast-paced legal and medical fields, Chapelton Vineyards has become a haven for wine enthusiasts and those seeking a taste of the good life.
After a year since its debut, Chapelton Vineyards has truly come into its own, with 14 acres of thriving estate vines and a range of visitor amenities, including a vibrant tasting room and two upscale vacation villas. Located near the Brazos River, the vineyard is conveniently situated just 30 minutes from Bryan/College Station, a little more than an hour northwest of Houston and approximately two hours from Austin.
In 2014, the Lyns planted their first vineyard, cultivating Blanc du Bois and Black Spanish grapes on their newly acquired property. As their passion for winemaking grew, they expanded the vineyard, acquiring an additional parcel of land. To ensure a sustainable approach to farming, they partnered with Texas A&M University, making environmental responsibility a core principle of Chapelton Vineyards' operations.
"Wine education – from ground to glass – underscores everything we do at Chapelton Vineyards," explained Kurt Lyn. "Since its inception, we have been dedicated to understanding viticulture, mastering the business of running a winery and building a team that shares our commitment to delivering an unparalleled experience for our guests. In just one year, Chapelton Vineyards has achieved so much, and we are thrilled to share this journey with our visitors."
The Lyns take pride in maintaining a hands-on relationship with Chapelton Vineyards, spending most weekends on-site alongside their team and guests. Assisting them in this quest to create a memorable experience are general manager Allie Ferguson, a seasoned expert with nearly a decade of experience in the wine industry, and a passionate team of wine enthusiasts.
A meandering road, embodying the Lyns' belief that success comes from embracing the journey, leads visitors to the grand heart of Chapelton Vineyards. This two-story, 7,500-square-foot tasting room overlooks the sprawling vineyard. Featuring modern and industrial design elements, the structure celebrates the region's natural beauty with limestone accents. The ground level, seating 80 guests, houses the production facility and a boutique where visitors can purchase bottles of wine and branded merchandise. Ascending to the second floor, guests will find seating for 120, an open kitchen, and a veranda boasting panoramic views of the vineyards – an ideal spot to relax and indulge in the serene atmosphere.
Inside the tasting room, guests are invited to explore Chapelton Vineyards' extensive portfolio of premium and signature red, white, and sparkling wines. From the crisp Blanc du Bois to the elegant Merlot and Tempranillo, each sip promises to transport wine enthusiasts to a world of flavors. The vineyard also grows Black Spanish grapes, with vines sourced from Washington State, California, Uruguay, and Argentina.
Chapelton Vineyards boasts an in-house executive chef, Jorge Rivas, who has carefully curated a menu of small bites, charcuterie, sandwiches, and salads to complement the wines. Chef Rivas also oversees the culinary offerings for the property's private events, ensuring that every occasion is filled with delectable delights. From intimate client appreciation gatherings to corporate retreats and rehearsal dinners, Chapelton Vineyards sets the stage for unforgettable experiences.
Immersive tasting experiences take guests on a journey through the vineyard, production facility, and barrel room, culminating in the tasting room where visitors delight in sampling five wines, accompanied by a delightful charcuterie board.
Just steps away from the tasting room, two custom-built, 1,500-square-foot villas await those seeking an extended escape into luxury. Villa Blanc du Bois and Villa Tempranillo, each accommodating up to four guests, offer a dreamy retreat. Priced at $600 per night, the short-term rentals include two complimentary bottles of wine and an extended tasting experience for up to four guests. Additionally, guests have the option to indulge in a private dinner or brunch, elevating their stay to an unrivaled level of luxury. Each two-bedroom, two-bath villa features top-tier amenities, including a chef's kitchen, an indoor fireplace, and an outdoor terrace with patio seating and a grill. Professionally managed by Chapelton Vineyards' hospitality and villa director, Margarita Rodriguez, these villas provide a seamless blend of comfort and sophistication.
