Established in 1670 Charleston, South Carolina is a city rich in history and culture, with a range of activities and attractions that are sure to appeal to any visitor. It is always one of my favorite stops when I am road-tripping up the Atlantic Coast and it's on our list again this spring, if you have time to stop in "The Holy City" here are ten things to do in that will allow you to experience all that Charleston has to offer:
Take a tour of the Charleston Tea Garden: Located on Wadmalaw Island, just a short drive from Charleston, the Charleston Tea Garden is the only tea plantation in America. Visitors can take a guided tour of the plantation to learn about the history of tea in America, see the tea plants up close, and even sample a variety of teas.
Explore the historic Charleston Peninsula: The Charleston Peninsula is home to many of the city's most famous landmarks, including the Charleston City Market, the Charleston Museum, and the Battery. Walking or biking through this area is a great way to get a sense of the city's history and culture, and there are plenty of charming shops and restaurants to explore along the way.
Go on a Ghost Tour: Charleston is known for its ghostly history, and there are a number of companies that offer guided ghost tours through the city's most haunted neighborhoods and buildings. These tours are a fun and unique way to learn about the city's history and are sure to be a memorable experience.
Take a Boat Tour of the Charleston Harbor: The Charleston Harbor is home to a number of important landmarks, including Fort Sumter, where the Civil War began, and the USS Yorktown, a World War II aircraft carrier that is now a museum. Whether you're interested in history, culture, food, or the outdoors, Charleston has something for everyone. Once you are back on the road head north to Myrtie Beach or south to another amazing Southern city Savannah, Georgia.
