If you happen to be in Spartanburg, South Carolina, make sure to carve out some time to visit the only BMW museum in North America, the BMW Zentrum. Located on the grounds of the BMW factory that produces the X3, X3 M, X5, X5 M, and X7 Sports Activity Vehicles and X4, X4 M, X6, and X6 M Sports Activity Coupes for the world, the museum offers visitors a look back at BMW’s rich history and a glimpse into the future. We stopped in after picking up a BMW M5 for our road trip to “The Snake” on the way to Bristol, Tennessee. It was the perfect way to kick off a BMW road trip.

Unlike the factory tour, which requires ticketed reservations, the Zentrum is open Monday through Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with the exception of major holidays and a few other days throughout the year. You can check the full schedule on bmwgroup-werke.com. Parking is free, and you can grab a bite at the Isetta Café if you are hungry.

Inside, you will see one of the best collections of BMWs in the world. Highlights include some of the most important vehicles in BMW history, from the Isetta to the Z8, as well as a look at BMW’s motorsports and motorcycle history. The BMW Zentrum is a living museum, a combination of innovation and performance. At the BMW Zentrum, there is truly something for everyone. It is here that the “Ultimate Driving Machine” offers the ultimate backstage pass.

The BMW Zentrum Spartanburg limits groups to a maximum of 10; for larger groups, you will need to call ahead and make arrangements. There is no fee, and they have an amazing BMW gift shop for yourself or the BMW fan in your life.

Address:  1400 Highway 101 S., Greer, SC 29651 or call (864) 802-6000
