Devins came in all kinds of configurations, on different chassis, and with slightly different bodywork. This Devin C, which stands for Corvair is powered by a rear-engine Chevrolet flat six-cylinder engine which made the little car rocket from 0-60 in just under 4 seconds. Based on its serial number DC1-001-2, this is just the second Type C model to be built and one of just sixty to ever be built, of those, only fourteen are known to still be in existence today.
Originally the car could be purchased in a Kit Form for $2,750 or as a turnkey for $4,590 (around $46,000 in today’s dollars), meaning a Devin Type-C, to put that in perspective a Devin cost more than Porsche 356 Speedster or Austin Healey 3000.
The Devin was the brainchild of Bill Devin, a 1950’s California race car driver, and hot rodder. The Devin design became so popular that 27 different variations were produced designed to mount on chassis from Triumph, MG, Maserati, and eventually, the custom chassis Devin SS which was called by some “the Cobra Killer.” Devin won the SCCA championships in 1956 and 1959 and a Devin even won NHRA class titles from 1964-1966.
