The Five Shoes Every Man Needs

For many guys shoes are an afterthought, only buying shoes when they need them, generally at the last minuet limited to whatever is on the shelf at the local shoe store. But there are some key shoes that every man needs in his closet. Never mind specialty shoes like duck boots or sports shoes, these five shoes are the versatile staples you should have in your closet.

Brown Brogue Boots

The Five Shoes Every Man Needs

These classic Brogue boots can pull double duty with their wingtip style, they can dress up a pair of jeans or make a suit a little more casual. Look for a high-quality boot with laces, avoid the temptation for a zipper. Our favorite pair are by Beckett Simonon and retail for just $239.

Black Oxfords

The Five Shoes Every Man Needs

Every grown man needs a pair of Black Oxfords, keep them polished and they can get you through a wedding, funeral, job interview, or just about any other major life event. Invest in a good quality pair and they will last you for years. We like these from Paul Smith with their classic cap-toe and high-quality construction, $350.

Classic White Sneakers

Cool enough for Steve McQueen and Paul Newman, these timeless sneakers never go out of style. While we love our Chuck Taylors All Stars, if you are looking to up your game ditch the canvas and go with leather. These classic sneakers from Beckett Simonon retail for $159 and are full-grain leather, they feature a nice pop of color and a comfortable to wear all day long.

Desert Boots

The Five Shoes Every Man Needs
Year around the Desert Boot is a comfortable daily shoe that can be paired with a suit or dressed down for casual Friday. Clark's popularized this style in the 1950s and was based on the boots worn by British soldiers fighting in Africa during WWII. Clark's are great, but we prefer the Veldskoen version which is still made in Durban, South Africa, and is about the same price at $150.

Loafers

An American classic the loafer is a staple for any man who has to dress well but doesn't need to go super formal. We obviously prefer a driving loafer for a sporty look paired with some Suxtil driving pants and a classic polo you can bring a little sportiness to your daily routine. The loafer can also pair well with jeans, slacks, and even shorts, just make sure your pant break is in line with the look. These Wall Street Driving shoes by Marc Joseph New York are the perfect balance of fun and formal $195.
