GT40 and Porsche Crash at La Carrera Panamericana

Two participants from the La Carrera Panamericana and a National Guard patrol vehicle were involved in an incident during the Durango-Parras stage of the race. Karlo Flores and Erwin Coronel in the number 606Ford GT40 and Harry with Alex Luchtan in the number 593 Porsche were reportedly uninjured and shared a video on Facebook shortly after the crash. 

The La Carrera Panamericana was a border-to-border sedan and sports car racing event on open roads in Mexico similar to the Mille Miglia and Targa Florio in Italy. Running for five consecutive years from 1950 to 1954, the race was revived in 1988 by Pedro Dávila, Loyal Truesdale, and Eduardo de León Camargo, as a 7-day, 2,000-mile rally on public highways which features special closed stages for highspeed racing, limited to 144 mph since 2012. The original race was considered one of the most dangerous races in the world with serious crashes in the early years resulting ultimately in the cancellation of the race after the 1955 Le Mans Disaster. 

Thankfully all of the drivers were all ok, the cars, however, won’t likely be back on the road for some time.
