Junk Gypsy VW Art Car Designed with Justin Prasel and Sean Starr Shines in Round Top, Texas

If you’ve heard of the Junk Gypsies, it’s probably thanks to their hit reality TV show that premiered in 2012. But long before they made their television debut, Amie and Jolie Sikes had already built a devoted following with their signature blend of bohemian style, vintage finds, and salvaged treasures. Their eclectic aesthetic drew the attention of country music royalty like Miranda Lambert, Dierks Bentley, and even punk icon Billie Joe Armstrong.

Today, the Junk Gypsy brand has grown into a full-blown lifestyle empire known as Gypsyville, located in Round Top, Texas. Visitors can shop at their iconic flagship store, stay the night at the Wander Inn, and browse their stylish collaborations with QVC, Lane Boots, and more. But what many visitors might not notice is the subtle—and sometimes bold—nods to automotive and motorcycle culture that run through their work.

The Junk Gypsy VW Art Car Was Hand Crafted in Texas:

From light fixtures crafted from vintage motorcycle gas tanks to classic pickup trucks incorporated into their art, the Sikes sisters have always had a thing for wheels. One of the most eye-catching examples of this passion is their newest art car, a hand-painted Volkswagen Beetle customized by renowned Texas sign painter Sean Starr. The car was built to celebrate the launch of the Junk Gypsies’ new line of automotive accessories, now available at Buc-ee’s travel centers across Texas.

The Junk Gypsy VW Beetle, restored with help from Justin Praesel, now sits proudly at the entrance to the Round Top store. Starr’s intricate paintwork blends his experiences in India with traditional Western sign painting, resulting in a one-of-a-kind design full of Texas cultural references and vintage Americana. The car isn’t just a showpiece—it’s a rolling canvas that represents the Junk Gypsies’ love of travel, adventure, and bold self-expression.
