Jaguar has been leading the electrified future of motoring in many ways, the Jaguar I-Pace eTropy racing series, their support of Formula E, and now a new concept unveiled as a virtual Gran Tourismo vision car.
This futuristic Jaguar sports car debuts in Gran Turismo Sport during the Gran Turismo World Tour event in Tokyo, and is inspired by the Jaguar I-Type and eTrophy race cars. Though virtual the engineering behind the car is very real, boasts three powerful, compact motors producing 1,020PS (750 kW), in the real world it would translate to 0-100km/h in less than two seconds.
This project has been completely led by our young designers and represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for them to create a vehicle steeped in our incredible heritage but pushing the boundaries of future design. The team have done an incredible job in creating something which is clearly identifiable as a Jaguar, inspired – but not constrained – by our iconic past.
The styling was influenced by the classic shapes of Jaguar C-type and D-type Le Mans cars. Since the car must function in its virtual world as a real car would, it features active aero and is made using exotic composite materials the car would tip the scales at just 3,086 lbs, and boast 50/50 weight distribution. Inside the cockpit is sparse and simple but is recognizable as distinctively Jaguar.
We are delighted to today announce the Jaguar Vision Gran Turismo project. It was a great experience for us to work with Julian Thomson who is the new design director now at Jaguar. The design and performance of this car is a result of the team’s skill, craftmanship, and long years of collaborations together. We look forward to having drivers get behind the wheel next month.
The Jaguar Vision GT will be available for players to download in Gran Turismo Sport for the Sony PlayStation 4 from the end of November and will first be driven by competitors in the latest round of Sony’s Gran Turismo World Tour event at the Tokyo Motor Show, Japan, from 26-27 October.
