SixSpeed Dials

There is something about car guys and watches, almost all of my friends who are into cars, also collect watches. Watch brands also get it from limited automotive-inspired editions to sponsoring major racing series, horology and motorsports go hand in hand, after all, most drivers are trying to beat the clock anyways.

So when I ran across a new American watch company that was building a series of automotive-inspired watches, I had to check them out. The company called SixSpeed Dials'first collection draws most of its design cues from the instrument clusters of iconic sports cars. Watches have names like the Bavarian F8X, Maranello F136, the Stuttgart 991, and as pictured (above) the British MK1.

Getting into the mechanics of the watch, all models by Six Speed Dials use a 21 jewel Miyota 8215 Automatic movement, not known for being exceptionally smooth but a solid movement that should provide years of service. The collection share a standard case design, 42mm, two styles offered in chrome and matte black, the case is simple and feels good on the wrist. The only criticism I have in the styling of the watch is the shape of the lugs which feel more Art Deco than Speed Racer, but that is just my personal style preference.

The watchband which according to SixSpeed is made from Rolls Royce Leather is offered in several colors of solid leather, as well in black perforated rubber with a contrasting stitch allow some personalization when you order your watch directly from the brand's website.

All watches currently offered by SixSpeed dials are under $300 and come with a 24-month warranty. I have been wearing the British MK1 for about a week and have to say that wears nicely, is comfortable and other than a slightly longer strap, I wouldn't mind keeping it in my daily watch rotation, but mostly on the days that I could drive my classic Austin Healey.
