The sports version of the MSS was introduced in 1956, the Venom, that had a “square” bore/stroke and a hot camshaft. With an extremely narrow crankcase, the Venom was remarkably smooth at speed and inherited the excellent handling of its World Championship-winning KTT brethren. The motor proved nearly indestructible and fast, and in 1961, a lightly modified Velocette Venom Clubman model circulated around the Montlhéry speed bowl at 100 MPH for 24 hours, the first time for any motorcycle and a record that still stands for a single-cylinder motorcycle. The Clubman models incorporated the factory race kit options, including aluminum wheel rims, rear-set footrests, dropped handlebars, a tachometer, racing magneto, TT carburetor and high-compression pistons. The Clubman model shone in endurance racing, 12 and 24-hour events at circuits like Barcelona and Thruxton, where they won many times.

This beautiful 1968 Velocette Venom Clubman from the MC Collection is an example of the most successful British production racers and sports roadsters, one that enjoys a peerless reputation today and is in great demand. The Velocette Owners’ Club is a particularly strong support organization, and its annual summer rally is a 1,000-mile tour, attesting to the continuing reliability of this hallowed brand.

This bike will be auctioned at Mecum’s South Point Hotel & Casino Auction in Las Vegas later this month with an estimate of $22,000 – $28,000. See more on the official listing page HERE.
