Japanese car builder Mitsuoka, maker of the classic Viewt sedan and the Orochi supercar has unveiled the new Rock Star based on the new Mazda MX-5 and inspired by the classic C2 Corvette. The Rock Star is being built to celebrate Mitsuoka’s 50th anniversary and is limited to 50 units and is offered in six unique colors; Los Angeles Blue, Chicago Red, New York Black, Cisco Orange, Washington White, and Arizona Yellow.

Available in two trim levels the S and the S Speical Package, the latter being offered in manual or automatic. The base model S comes with a manual transmission, manual air conditioning, a removable cup holder all for around $41,000 USD, while the S Special Package Automatic gets two cup holders, automatic air conditioning, something called “commander control,” and a 7-inch infotainment system for just over $46,000 USD. To put it in perspective a base model MX-5 in the USA starts at $25,295, but that is the price of exclusivity.

The Rock Star is a different direction for Mitsuoka who has traditionally built British inspired cars like the Viewt, Galue, and even their own version of the Lotus Super 7. While it is not likely that a Mitsuoka will ever make it’s way to the USA, I think a modern MX-5 with classic good looks would be a great combination for a Route 66 road trip.
