It was the opening round of the F.I.A. World Sportscar Championship for 1961, 40,000 spectators gathered to watch Phil Hill race his Ferrari 250 TRI/61 against Stirling Moss in the Maserati Tipo 61. The Maserati would retire after just three hours, while, the Sefac Automobile Ferrari of Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien would fend off the field which included Don Yenko, Bud Moore, Pedro Rodríguez, Roger Penske, and the rest of the top drivers in the world.

In the end, Ferrari would take all three podiums and thankfully a spectator was there snap these amazing pictures of the race including the one above with Wolfgang von Trips climbing into the Ferrari 250 TRI/60, the car that would take 2nd place.
