Steve McQueen’s Idaho Ranch

1 min read

He was dubbed the King of Cool, and while he was known as a big Hollywood Movie star, he always longed to be far away from the noise. McQueen had spent some of his youth in the then-rural area now known as Chino Hills, attending the Boy’s Republic reform school. It was and still is a working farm, so perhaps it was here that McQueen developed his love of open spaces and the quiet that comes from being away from it all on the ranch.

Once he had the means, McQueen always kept a ranch far out of the city, and when it was all too much, this Idaho ranch was once his escape. The legendary actor Steve McQueen once said “I would rather wake up in the middle of nowhere than in any city on earth,” and in this secluded 500-acre ranch at the foot of the Pioneer Mountains he could truly live it.

The upper Wood River Valley property features 1.5 miles of the Big Wood River East Fork that runs through the property. The original cabin was restored in 2004 by the current owners at just 1,410 square feet; with 2 beds and two baths and a stone fireplace, it is a cozy retreat.

To update the property, the current owners also added a second cabin, measuring just over 1,700 square feet, featuring one bed, 1.5 baths, a library, bar, and dining room.
They also added a 1,539-square-foot four-bay garage (one bay with drive-through capabilities for farm equipment) that offers a workshop and loft.

The property is currently listed at $7,400,000 if you want a little slice of paradise.
