Tragedy at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway

The Desert Sun is reporting that Chelsea Vu, of Westminster was killed Sunday in a car crash at the Chuckwalla Valley Raceway in Desert Center,  according to a coroner’s report on Monday, she was only 21.

Vu was a passenger in a car that lost control, striking a concrete barrier head on. She was wearing a four-point harness seat-belt  however, no reports state she was in a helmet. According to the coroner’s report, the single car cash happened about 10:20 a.m., Vu was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver was listed in suffered major injures and was taken to the hospital by helicopter.

The crash occurred during a STAR Car Sports track day that was held from April 20-21. According to the Chuckwalla Valley Raceway website, drivers paid $200 for one day or $325 for two days. The track opened two years ago with a goal to be a premier automobile and motorcycle training and practice racetrack facility.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the driver and Miss Vu’s family and friends.
