Shelby American Celebrates Cobra-Ferrari Wars

The Shelby American Collection, a nonprofit museum dedicated to preserving the heritage of American racecars designed by Carroll Shelby, will celebrate its 15th anniversary here on August 6 with a special event focused on the Golden Age of auto racing and the Cobra-Ferrari Wars that defined the zenith of the American auto industry in the 1960s.

What: Shelby American Collection 15th Anniversary

• A special autograph session with world championship team drivers Bob Bondurant, Jack Sears, Allen Grant, Lew Spencer and Tom Yeager.
• Two of the most significant cars in Shelby’s quest for the World Championship: the CSX 2299, the Le Mans/Sebring/Daytona-winning Cobra Daytona Coupe and CSX 2345, the SPA/ Sierra-Montana/Tourist Trophy/Rossfeld Hillclimb-winning FIA Cobra Roadster.
• Outdoor vintage car show with over 30 cars from the era including Cobras, Ferraris and other racing automobiles.
• Live ‘60s music by local band The Modniks.

About the Shelby American Collection
The Shelby American Collection is the premier and most extensive collection of Shelby Cobra, Shelby GT350 and Ford GT40 cars, historical records and memorabilia. The museum is dedicated to the preservation of Shelby American Automobiles and to convey the Shelby American team story to the public. Many of the original vehicles, which were instrumental in establishing the legend of the Shelby Cobra racecars and winning the 1965 Manufacturers World Championship, are on exhibit at the museum. Among the cars displayed are the F.I.A. winning Cobra Roadster, the Ken Miles Cobra USRRC Championship car, the first Shelby GT350R model, the original Cobra Dragon Snake dragster and the GT40 Mk IV driven by Mario Andretti at Le Mans in 1967.
