We spent a week in the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV, a significant upgrade in Chevrolet's electric vehicle lineup. Offering a blend of affordability, range, and modern features, the Equinox EV positions itself as a strong contender in the compact electric SUV segment despite the slowdown in electric vehicle sales. For those looking to go all-electric, Chevy has put together a great package that is actually very practical for a daily driver.

The Equinox EV showcases a sleek design, distinguishing itself from its internal combustion engine counterpart, which shares the same name. Its aerodynamic profile is complemented by a bold front fascia featuring a distinctive grille and slim LED headlights, giving it a more futuristic appearance. The vehicle's proportions are nice overall, but it does struggle to stand out in the crowded compact SUV segment.

Under the hood, the Equinox EV is equipped with GM's Ultium battery technology. The front-wheel-drive (FWD) model produces 220 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque, while the all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant delivers 300 horsepower and 355 pound-feet of torque. This setup ensures responsive acceleration and a smooth driving experience, catering to urban commuting and highway cruising.

One of the standout features of the Equinox EV is its impressive range. The FWD model offers an estimated range of 319 miles on a full charge, positioning it competitively within its class. The AWD version provides a slightly lower range of 285 miles, which remains adequate for most daily driving needs. Charging capabilities include DC fast charging, allowing the vehicle to regain approximately 70 miles of range in just 10 minutes, facilitating convenient long-distance travel.

Inside, the Equinox EV boasts a spacious and modern cabin designed with both driver and passenger comfort in mind. High-quality materials and a user-friendly layout create an inviting atmosphere. The vehicle accommodates up to five passengers, offering ample legroom and headroom. Cargo space is generous, with 57.2 cubic feet available when the rear seats are folded down, providing flexibility for various hauling needs.

Chevrolet has equipped the Equinox EV with a suite of advanced technologies. Standard features include a large infotainment touchscreen with smartphone integration, ensuring seamless connectivity. Driver assistance systems such as automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control enhance safety and convenience. Optional features like a surround-view camera and wireless device charging are available in higher trims, allowing buyers to tailor the vehicle to their preferences.

Affordability is a key highlight of the Equinox EV. The base LT trim starts at $33,600, making it one of the more accessible options in the electric SUV market. The RS trim, offering additional features and styling enhancements, begins at $43,400. This pricing strategy positions the Equinox EV as a cost-effective choice for consumers transitioning to electric vehicles without compromising on essential features and performance.

The Equinox EV delivers a comfortable and composed ride, with its suspension system effectively absorbing road imperfections. The steering is light and responsive, contributing to easy maneuverability in various driving conditions. While it may not offer the sporty dynamics of some competitors, the Equinox EV prioritizes a smooth and predictable driving experience, appealing to a broad audience.

In the competitive landscape of electric SUVs, the Equinox EV faces rivals such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, and Tesla Model Y. Each offers unique strengths, but the Equinox EV's combination of range, affordability, and features makes it a compelling alternative for those seeking a balanced and practical electric vehicle.

The 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV represents a significant step forward for Chevrolet in the electric vehicle market. Its blend of modern design, impressive range, practical features, and accessible pricing makes it an attractive option for consumers looking to embrace electric mobility. But still, it is hard to justify the additional cost when the Chevrolet Trax RS offers most of the same practicality at around half the price and great fuel mileage.
