The Kia Niro's performance varies depending on the chosen powertrain.

Hybrid: Equipped with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor, the hybrid variant delivers a combined output of 139 horsepower. While acceleration is modest, the Niro hybrid excels in fuel efficiency, achieving up to 53 mpg combined. The ride quality is smooth and quiet, making it suitable for daily commuting and city driving.

Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV): The PHEV model features the same 1.6-liter engine but with a more powerful electric motor, resulting in a combined output of 180 horsepower. This variant offers an all-electric driving range of approximately 26 miles, ideal for short trips and reducing fuel consumption. The transition between electric and hybrid modes is seamless, providing a refined driving experience.

Electric (EV): The Niro EV is powered by a 64.8 kWh battery pack, delivering an estimated range of 239 miles on a full charge. The electric motor produces 201 horsepower, offering brisk acceleration and a responsive driving experience. The Niro EV supports fast charging, with the ability to charge from 10% to 80% in about 43 minutes using a Level 3 fast charger operating at 85 kW.

Across all variants, the Niro's handling is composed and predictable. The steering is light, making it easy to maneuver in urban environments, though it may lack the feedback desired by enthusiasts. The suspension setup prioritizes comfort, effectively absorbing most road imperfections, though it can become unsettled over larger bumps or during aggressive cornering.

Kia has equipped the Niro with a suite of technology and safety features to enhance convenience and security. The infotainment system is centered around a touchscreen display, with higher trims featuring a 10.25-inch screen. The system is intuitive, with clear graphics and quick response times. Standard connectivity features include Bluetooth, USB ports, and smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
