It is rare that I actually miss one of the press cars once it is picked up, but the 2024 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio makes me wish I had the budget and the space to add this special car to my collection. Since its debut, the Giulia Quadrifoglio has captivated enthusiasts with its combination of performance, beautiful Italian looks, and visceral driving experience. We took it to a local car meet where the Rosso Etna sedan was a hit with the Texas A&M Sports Car Club members.
At the heart of the 2024 Giulia Quadrifoglio is the same 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine, now tweaked to produce 513 horsepower, a modest increase since I first drove one in 2019. This powerplant, derived from Ferrari's engineering expertise, delivers an intoxicating blend of power, character, and an exhaust note that makes you want to keep driving. The engine's 443 lb-ft of torque ensures that acceleration is relentless, propelling the Giulia from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds.
Alfa Romeo has always been renowned for its sharp handling and agility, and the 2024 Giulia continues this tradition with a retuned suspension setup. The company has made subtle adjustments to the suspension geometry, improving ride quality and even sharper handling. The car feels more composed over uneven surfaces, making it more comfortable for everyday driving without sacrificing its dynamic prowess on twisty roads.
The steering remains one of the fastest in the segment, with a supercar-like ratio of 11.8:1. While this makes for incredibly responsive handling, some might find it too light, particularly at higher speeds. However, the dual-wishbone front suspension and rear multi-link setup ensure that the Giulia Quadrifoglio maintains exceptional grip and stability through corners, offering a driving experience that is both thrilling and confidence-inspiring.
Visually, the 2024 Giulia Quadrifoglio hasn't changed much at all. While it still has a striking presence characterized by aggressive lines and an iconic Alfa Romeo grill, the design has been around for nearly a decade, and it could use a more aggressive refresh. The new triple-element LED headlamps and updated rear lights are the only major changes. This car is also equipped with a carbon fiber roof, reducing weight while lowering its center of gravity, improving handling, and making it look super cool.
Inside, the Giulia Quadrifoglio blends luxury and sportiness. The updated interior includes a new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, offering a more contemporary and customizable interface. The 3D carbon fiber trim adds a tactile element to the cabin, although opinions on its aesthetic appeal may vary.
The seats are comfortable and supportive. My test vehicle is equipped with the optional Sparco carbon-fiber racing seats, which provide additional lateral support for track enthusiasts. These seats enhance the car's sporty feel and contribute to weight reduction, an essential factor in the vehicle's performance-oriented design. Rear seat space is adequate for a sports sedan, and the trunk offers reasonable cargo capacity, although practicality is not the primary focus of this vehicle.
The technology is a little dated, but in 2024, an updated infotainment system with improved graphics and functionality was introduced, akin to that found in the Alfa Romeo Tonale. Standard features include a wireless phone charger, a premium audio system, and a suite of driver assistance systems, such as lane-keeping assist and speed limit recognition. The backup camera feels like it is still from 2015, but it functions, and besides, you are supposed to be "driving Italian" anyways.
While it might not be the new kid on the block, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio balances performance, style, and driving enjoyment. Its refined powertrain, improved handling characteristics, and updated interior make it a formidable contender in the high-performance sedan market. While it may lack the practicality of some rivals, such as the BMW M3 or Mercedes-AMG C63, the Giulia Quadrifoglio offers an emotional and exhilarating driving experience that is hard to match.
For those seeking a sports sedan that engages the senses and delivers pure driving pleasure, the 2024 Giulia Quadrifoglio remains a top choice, even at $92,615.
