The initial batch of Grenadier Quartermaster double cab pick-ups has officially commenced production at the INEOS Automotive facility in Hambach, France. Anticipated deliveries to European customers are set to kick off in December 2023, with shipments to Asia Pacific, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Middle East shortly following suit. North American sales for the Quartermaster are slated to commence in early 2024.
“The start of production for our second model line is another extremely exciting and important milestone for INEOS Automotive,” says Lynn Calder, CEO, INEOS Automotive. “As part of the final sign-off process, I drove a late prototype in both Spain and the African bush and it’s unbeatable off-road, combining the rugged capability and refined performance of the Station Wagon with the enormous load bay that can carry a huge amount of kit and cargo. It’s a great addition to our model line-up.”
Named in homage to the high-ranking military officer overseeing supply and distribution, the five-seat double cab Quartermaster was collaboratively developed alongside the Grenadier Station Wagon and shares the same production line in Hambach, France. Unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, the Quartermaster is meticulously engineered to offer the same unwavering off-road capabilities and reliability as the Station Wagon, with an added emphasis on enhanced load-carrying versatility.
Built on the Station Wagon's full box-section ladder frame chassis, the Quartermaster boasts heavy-duty solid beam axles, a two-speed transfer case, and the option for up to three locking differentials. Propelled by a choice of BMW 3.0-litre turbo-charged inline six-cylinder petrol or diesel engines, the Quartermaster drives power to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission from ZF.
As the largest model in the Grenadier lineup, the Quartermaster features an extended 129-inch wheelbase, providing a substantial and highly adaptable bed capable of accommodating a payload of up to 1675 pounds. Its extended chassis enables the easy transportation of a standard 2 x 4-foot pallet.
Looking ahead, a chassis cab model, sharing the same frame as the Quartermaster pick-up, is slated to enter production in 2024. This model is specifically tailored for conversion specialists and commercial upfitters.
INEOS Automotive took ownership of the Hambach manufacturing facility from Mercedes-Benz in January 2021. Support for the Grenadier line's production involved the implementation of a new semi-automated paint shop, a fully automated body shop, and a state-of-the-art quality center.
