Radford will campaign their one-off Pikes Peak Edition Type 62-2 at the 101st running of The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on June 25, 2023, during an event sponsored by Gran Turismo. Professional Rally and Race Car Driver Tanner Foust, who won his class at the 2021 event, will pilot the car on the challenging hill climb course.
The Pikes Peak Type 62-2 is a global project that involves multiple partners and suppliers. The design was created by Alan Derosier of Legend Automobiles in France, while the drivetrain was developed and built in Austria. The 3D printing and carbon monocoque construction were completed in the UK, and the final assembly and project management occurred at Radford's headquarters in California.
The Pikes Peak Edition is based on the road car but includes modifications necessary for the specific challenges of Pikes Peak. The vehicle features a large rear wing and a complex cooling system to account for the increased power output and decreased air density at altitude. The car's exterior is inspired by the iconic JPS livery, while the interior features a driver-focused central seating position and a lightweight racing seat approved by the FIA.
“I am honored to have the chance to pilot this machine up the Pikes Peak course! It has been great working with the whole team at Radford and I am looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the Radford Type 62-2 Pikes Peak Edition” said racing driver Tanner Foust.
Joe Scarbo of Scarbo Performance led the project as the lead engineer and project manager. Scarbo Performance is well-known for its rapid development and engineering for complex racing programs.
