The 2024 Toyota Tacoma is a highly anticipated vehicle in the automotive industry, and while details are still being kept under wraps, we have got what might be a sneak peek of what the next-generation pickup truck is going to look like. Based on what we have been able to glean from our sources, it is highly likely that the Tacoma will come with one, if not two, hybrid powertrains.
A screenshot captured from a 2021 presentation by Toyota of an electric pickup concept combined with recently leaked images courtesy of the Tacoma4G.com forum, gives us a pretty good idea of what the next-generation Tacoma will look like.
It is a well-known fact that Toyota is strongly committed to hybridizing its fleet of vehicles, as seen with the hybrid-only powertrains in the new Sequoia and Sienna, as well as the recently introduced Corolla Cross. Even the upper tiers of the Tundra lineup feature a hybrid-only powertrain. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that the 2024 Tacoma will either be entirely hybrid or offer a hybrid powertrain option.
The RAV4 hybrid and Sienna both come with a 2.5-liter hybrid engine, which is the likelier bet for the Tacoma, instead of the iForce Max engine found in the Tundra. With 245 horsepower in the Sienna and 219 horsepower in the RAV4, we anticipate the Tacoma's powertrain to be tuned similarly to the Sienna. The current V-6 engine in the Tacoma delivers 278 horsepower, so we expect the 2024 Tacoma to deliver even more impressive performance.
The official unveiling of the 2024 Tacoma could be coming as soon as the New York Auto Show this coming April, but with it being the last of the mid-size truck to get a full refresh the mid-size truck market is going to have a lot of strong contenders with the new GMC Canyon and Chevy Colorado, the recently redesigned Frontier and we should also be seeing a new Ford Ranger for 2024.
