The Bugatti Chiron is a luxurious and powerful sports car that was first introduced in 2016 as a successor to the ground-breaking Veyron. Both the Veyron and Chiron share the same 8.0-liter W-16 engine, although it has been almost entirely reengineered for the newer car. The Chiron's engine features four larger two-stage turbochargers, which help to boost its power output to an impressive 1,600 PS.
Bugatti initially planned to produce a limited run of 500 Chiron units, and the demand for the car was so high that the first 200 units were sold before the first Chiron had even left the factory in Molsheim, France. In response to customer demand, Bugatti's engineers worked to expand the Chiron's capabilities and develop new versions of the car that offered even more performance and agility.
One of these special editions is the Chiron Pur Sport, which features a 1.9-meter-wide wing, shorter gear ratios, and faster acceleration, as well as a boost in lateral acceleration by 10 percent, resulting in a top speed of 350 km/h. The Chiron Super Sport is another derivative, and it is a Gran Turismo with a power output of 1,600 PS and a limited top speed of 440 km/h. In 2019, a Bugatti driver named Andy Wallace achieved a record-breaking speed of 304.773 mph (490.484 km/h) while driving a near-production Chiron Super Sport 300+ prototype, a record that still stands today.
During the production of the Chiron, some customers expressed an interest in a car that was slighty "less radical" than the Chiron Pur Sport, one that offered the same extraordinary acceleration and handling but with a more touring-oriented personality. In response to this feedback, Bugatti's engineers began work on a new version of the Chiron that would fill this gap in the company's product portfolio. They developed a silhouette that was closer to the original Chiron in terms of its appearance but with the driving dynamics of the Chiron Pur Sport.
The result of this development effort was the Bugatti Chiron Profilée, a one-of-a-kind car that features a bespoke shape with a sweeping tail that helps to manage the car's thermodynamic airflow and increase downforce over the rear axle. The Chiron Profilée is finished in a distinctive horizontal split that optically divides the body into two parts, making the car appear even lower than it already is. The exterior color, called "Argent Atlantique," was created exclusively for the Profilée, and the lower part of the car's body is tinted in Bleu Royal Carbon, elegantly exposing the carbon fiber structure.
The interior of the Chiron Profilée is finished in black leather and carbon fiber, with blue accents and a detachable steering wheel. The car is also equipped with a range of advanced safety and driver assistance systems, as well as a state-of-the-art infotainment system. The Chiron Profilée is powered by the same 8.0-liter W-16 engine as the other Chiron models, and it offers a unique combination of acceleration, agility, and accuracy while maximizing the performance of this formidable powerplant.
This particular Chiron is going to auction at the RM Sotheby's Paris Auction in February 2023, as the first and only “pre-series” Chiron Profilée to be built. Learn more at rmsothebys.com.
