Samuel Adams Brewers has announced the long-awaited release date of Samuel Adams Utopia. The 12th biennial issue of Utopia, launching on October 11th, is finished with 2,000 pounds of cherries, including Michigan Balaton cherries, giving this 28% ABV rarity a hint of subtle sweetness and pie flavor. rice field.
Sam Adams Utopia is a vibrant blend of multiple groups of our extreme beers, some reserved just for this coveted biennial release. Some beers are actually almost 30 years old and are aged in bourbon barrels. The brewery completes the blend by combining barrels of Calcaberos, Madeira, Ruby Port, and Sherry Oloroso. For the first time this year, the brewer aged part of the blend in French oak barrels from Sauternes, adding subtle hints of honey apricots and caramel to the rich flavors.
We pioneered the barrel-aging and blending process of Utopias almost thirty years ago and continue that time-honored tradition today, since the introduction of Utopias in 2002, brewers have explored uncharted territory with each brew, experimenting with different kinds of aging barrels, new flavors, and different blending techniques. Each utopia offers a fruitful opportunity to foster creativity, thanks to a meticulous aging and mixing process. This year, brewers learned that the subtle sweet and spicy notes of these unique drupes enhance Utopia's overall profile and create a rich aroma of black cherries and dark fruits, a secret Michigan Baraton.
