Cheryl Hayes founded a company called Girls Outside the Box, a small shop dedicated to unique products and workshops where girls could create and be inspired. From motivational speakers like former olympian softball players to specialized classes where stylists teach dads how to style their daughter's hair, Girls Outside the Box was a special place. The shop also produced a number of products that were created by Cheryl, including furniture made from tires. It all started with an outdoor tire ottoman inspired by Pinterest, like everything else Cheryl put her own twist on it and created colorful custom ottomans for in the house, and Inspired Tire was born. She had already sold hundreds of ottomans when the pandemic hit.
Girls Outside the Box was forced to close, but instead of packing up, Cheryl pivoted and launched Inspired Tire, offering custom ottomans, swings, mirrors, and other furniture made from recycled tires. She is currently designing, shelving, light fixtures, and coat racks using a variety of tires sourced from local tire ships, who are happy to save on tire recycling fees. To create different items Cheryl uses tires from passenger vehicles, bicycles, motorcycles, and even lawnmowers. No two items are ever exactly the same and the final product is really only limited by your imagination, prices range on the side of the tire and the amount of decoration, but most items currently listed range between $100-$400.
We found Cheryl's work over on TicTok where Inspired Tire already has over 23,000 followers. Some of our favorite items are the bar stools and patterned tires, her site inspiredtire.com is under construction, but you can visit her Etsy Shop for now.
