Stratas Auctions has announced dates for the sale of the Henry Schmitt BMW collection, headlined by the Sebring winning 1974 BMW 3.5 CSL ‘Batmobile’ and featuring some of the most significant BMW race cars in history. The collection ranges from the 1960s to the modern era and includes iconic racers and incredibly rare road cars like the BMW 2002, Z1 Alpina RLE, and a 2018 M6 GT3 Race. Bidding opens on January 21, 2021.
Sebring Winning 1974 BMW 3.5 CSL IMSA Batmobile
The 3.0 CSL was designed specifically to meet the demands of racing. Under the leadership of Jochen Neerpasch, BMW established its own in-house racing division in the early 1970s. BMW Motorsport took over the development of the CSL from Alpina, and quickly developed a series of sleek, aerodynamic parts that gave the CSL the ‘Batmobile’ nickname. In the midst of it all, the BMW Motorsport division built a series of CSL race cars, which paved the way for the Munich automaker to eventually launch BMW of North America in November of 1974.
2018 BMW M6 GT3 Race Car
Finished in white with blue, red, and black BMW ‘M’ motorsport livery plus BMW of San Francisco sponsorship graphics, BMW M6 GT3 #1621 is a stunning example with its competition specification, prominent front, and rear spoilers, and all business presence. The interior compartment features a large racing bucket seat, racing harness, safety gear, and an A-P Racing control panel and carbon fiber steering wheel. Known as the second-place winner of the 2018 24 Hours of Spa - Francorchamps, this 2018 BMW M6 GT3 is in ready to race condition.
1995 BMW 850 C Si
As a top-of-the-range variant of the 8 Series, the 850CSi took over from the prototype M8 variant. The 850CSi used the same engine as the 850i, which was tuned so significantly that BMW assigned it a new engine code: S70B56. The 850CSi's modified suspension included stiffer springs and dampers that reduced the car's ride height. The recirculating ball steering ratio was dropped 15% over the standard E31 setup. The model also sported staggered throwing star wheels. The front and rear bumpers were reshaped for improved aerodynamic performance. Four round stainless steel exhaust tips replaced the square tips found on other models. The 6-speed manual gearbox was the only transmission option.
