Gearing Up for Motorcycle Season with Viking Cycle

by Michael Satterfield

Spring is nearly here and while many of us in the Southern parts of the US can enjoy year-round riding, our friends in other parts of the country are excited that they will soon be able to pull the cover off their favorite two-wheelers and hit streets and trails again. So when Viking Cycle reached out to see if I would be interested in checking out their latest gear, I was excited to see what they had to offer.

While Viking did send me these items at no charge, it was under the conditions that I would be offering my own opinion on the items, Viking has not paid for this post and all opinions are my own.

The first item that Viking sent was their Ironborn Red Textile Motorcycle Jacket for, it is a great jacket for spring/summer riding with lots of vents that can be opened or closed dedicated pockets for your phone (with a slot for a headphone wire), a pocket knife, wallet, and several other general pockets. It has CE approved armor on elbows, shoulders, and spine, which do give you more confidence when riding.

I did take it out on some rides here in Texas when it was in the high 40s and low 50s and while it does cut the wind down, you will need to layer up to really keep warm. But on days when it was in the 60s and 70s, it was perfect and the easy to access vents make adjusting your comfort on the fly easy. The jacket is also offered in other colors, and Viking Cycle has dozens of great textile and leather motorcycle jackets for men and women to choose from.

The second item Viking Cycle sent was one of their motorcycle backpacks, which was a great size for everyday use, running around town, or maybe a light weekend. The pack was comfortable and distributed weight well, one thing I noticed in my rides was that it didn't create a lot of wind noise like some other packs I have worn for trips. I do like that they do offer complete motorcycle luggage that all matches so you can get your backpack, saddlebags, tool bag, sissybar bag, and more all from one place. You can search by make and model and see all the options available for your bike making it easy to use. The only drawback I found with the backpack was that I found the check snap hard to manipulate with my gloves on, some other manufacturer's quick-release camlock designs are much easier to use without having to take off your gloves.
