GMC has announced that the HUMMER brand is coming back in late 2021 as an electric vehicle under the GMC brand of trucks and SUVs. A television ad during the Super Bowl titled "Quite Revolution" will launch the return of the brand touting a 0-60 time of 3 seconds and 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque.
GMC builds premium and capable trucks and SUVs and the GMC HUMMER EV takes this to new heights. We are excited to debut our revolutionary zero-emissions truck during the biggest night in TV advertising.
Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick and GMC
Back in 2009, General Motors had planned to sell the HUMMER brand to Chinese company Sichuan Tengzhong for $150 million, but due to localization laws, the deal was rejected by the Chinese Government. Since then the HUMMER brand has been relegated to licensed apparel, watches, and a line of camping accessories. The new GMC HUMMER EV truck will be the first new HUMMER since the brand shuttered in 2010 and it will be built in Michigan at GM's Detroit Hamtramck Assembly with globally sourced parts. GMC HUMMER EV will be officially revealed on May 20, 2020
