The Texas Auto Show at the State Fair of Texas was chosen as the battleground where truck manufacturers unveiled their latest pickups for 2020. From unique styling packages to staggering new towing rating, each brand had something new to offer truck buyers, so long as you are looking for a full-size or heavy-duty truck, there were no new announcements for Ranger, Tacoma, or Canyon/Colorado.
Here's what is new for trucks in 2020:
Chevrolet:
Chevrolet pulled the cover off their latest special edition packages for the Silverado 1500. The Midnight and Rally packages are back and add aggressive styling to recently redesigned Silverado.
The Silverado Midnight Edition (shown above) is offered on the LT Trail Boss and Custom Trail Boss trims, including a 2-inch factory suspension lift and the Z71 Off-Road Package with Rancho® mono-tube off-road shocks, an automatic locking rear differential, skid plates, 18-inch black-painted wheels, and Goodyear Duratrac off-road tires.
The Silverado Rally Edition is offered on the Custom and RST trims and features a sporty look, available in Black, Red Hot, Silver Ice Metallic or Summit White exterior paint. The street-focused edition includes a body-colored grille, black Rally stripes on the hood and tailgate, black Chevrolet tailgate lettering, black badging, black Bowties, black exhaust tip(s) and black assist steps.
Ford:
Ford unveiled their latest F-Series Super Duty with best-in-class maximum gooseneck towing of up to 37,000 pounds, best-in-class maximum fifth-wheel towing of 32,500 pounds and best-in-class maximum conventional towing of 24,200 pounds. The new Super Duty also has a maximum payload capacity of 7,850 pounds.
Ford also has taken then crown in the torque wars from RAM with the new 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V8 producing 1,050 ft.-lbs. of torque and 475 horsepower. They also unveiled the most powerful gas engine ever offered in a Super Duty, the all-new 7.3-liter V8 that produces 430 horsepower and 475 ft.-lbs. of torque.
GMC:
GMC announced a number of new features for their full size and heavy-duty truck lines. Including the new 6-function MultiPro Tailgate, the nearly indestructible and lighter weight CarbonPro Box, a new multi-colored head-up display, and the off-road-focused AT4 lineup that takes luxury off-road. But the most impressive feature is the new ProGrade Trailering feature, which makes all aspects of towing easier, safer, and less stressful. The "invisible trailer" rearview camera feature makes backing up, turning, and lane changes a breeze, while trailer maintenance management and tracking can remind you when its time to change your trailer's wheel bearings or check the tires. The expandable camera system allows trailer cargo monitoring perfect for hauling livestock.
Nissan:
Nissan unveiled a minor facelift on the 2020 Nissan Titan, with more differentiation between trim levels, with three unique grille designs, headlamps, bumpers, and wheels. The Cummins diesel is no longer offered in the Titan and a retuned version of the 5.6-liter V8 now offers 400 horsepower and is mated to a new 9-speed transmission. The Titan is also making the Nissan Safety Shield standard on all trim levels of the 2020 Titan.
RAM:
RAM rolled out a number of new special edition packages, including the new 1500 Limited Black Edition and the Heavy Duty Night Edition.
Ram 1500 Limited Black Edition (shown above) gets the full monochromatic look with 22-inch black wheels, tonneau cover, blacked-out grille with R-A-M letters, badging, tow hooks, exhaust, premium LED headlamps, grille surround, bumpers, door handles, and side-view mirrors. It also comes with the RAM Rebel's sport performance hood.
Ram Heavy Duty Night Editions, are offered on the Big Horn and Laramie models and include a monochromatic design with a black grille with body-colored surround, black badging and black 20-inch wheels. For the first time, Ram Heavy Duty trucks equipped with dual rear wheels now get 17-inch black wheels with machined pockets. The headlamps and tail lights feature dark bezels.
