Volkswagen and French racing driver Romain Dumas set the first record on Tianmen Mountain in China. The 6.7-mile winding mountain road has 99 tight turns which the all-electric ID.R completed in just 7:38.585 minutes. The ID.R currently holds the records on Pikes Peak (USA) and at the Goodwood Festival of Speed (GB), the electric lap record on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife (D), and now the fastest time for an ascent of Tianmen Mountain in China. The first all-new electric Volkswagen the ID.31 will be unveiled on 10 September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Bugatti (which is owned by Volkswagen) became the first manufacturer to break the 300-mile-per-hour mark on a test track in Germany with a production prototype. The Chiron, driven by Britsh Racing driver Andy Wallace, reached 304.773 MPH on Germany's Ehra-Lessien test track.
