Victorinox Swiss Army is well known for its classic pocket knives, but for the last 30 years, the Swiss company has been manufacturing high-quality timepieces that adhere to the same core principles of simplicity, function, and ruggedness that made the Swiss Army Knife so legendary. To point out just how tough of a watch they could build and to celebrate the company's 130th anniversary (and 30 years of watchmaking), Victorinox launched the I.N.O.X. collection.
I.N.O.X. comes from the French 'inoxydable' which basically means stainless steel, however, Victorinox Swiss Army has turned I.N.O.X. into an acronym which according to them means “Impact Neutralizing Object for the X-tremes.” They even state that it is "the only Swiss watch certified to withstand 130 extreme endurance homologation tests." Showcased in ad campaigns that have tractors driving over the watch or it being dunked in boiling water. It should also be noted that there are two versions of the I.N.O.X. a stainless steel case version (reviewed here) and a titanium case version.
Despite the claims of toughness, it seems to be a pretty standard watch with a Swiss Ronda quartz movement, stainless steel case, and sapphire crystal. The watch also does include a clear plastic protective case that covers the case and crystal, making adding additional protection, however, I doubt most wearers will use the protective cover. The ruggedness, in my opinion, must come from the slightly oversized nature of the components that just give it more materials to protect the fragile bits.
Wearing the I.N.O.X. is very comfortable, it has a nice weight and is not too thin or too thick and the rubber strap fits nicely considering I have a larger wrist. The standard Professional Diver retails for $595 while the Titanium version will set you back $750. I prefer the cleaner dial of the standard Professional Diver and it is offered in red, white, blue, and black.
Overall this is a great everyday watch that is designed to hold up to daily abuse and still look good at the end of the day.
