Seniors Not Slowing Down for Driving Experiences

by Michael Satterfield

One of the largest driving experience providers in the UK is reporting that its fastest-growing segment of drivers is senior citizens over 65. Track day bookings from seniors in 2018 were up 29 percent, putting grandparents behind the wheel of Aston Martins, Ferraris, McLarens, and Lamborghinis at some of most storied tracks in the UK. Drivers in North America are also taking to the track, with programs across the country, ranging from driving supercars to driving open-wheel formula cars. I have taken my dad on several driving adventures, like the BMW Performance Driving School and the Lexus Performance Driving School.

Dan Jones, operations manager of TrackDays.co.uk said: “Forget your preconceptions as our data suggests that elderly Brits have no intention of slowing down but, instead, would rather put pedal to the metal in an awesome supercar around a world-class race circuit.

This is in line with other travel industry trends as retirees from this generation are more adventurous and willing to travel more than previous seniors. So just because your work life is slowing down, doesn't mean you have to. Check out my story on my favorite driving experiences HERE.
