Review: tmbr. Watches

by Michael Satterfield - 10/31/2018

tmbr. (timber) reached out to me a few weeks ago and offered to send me a few watches to review. In addition to the watches, the company also offers a range of phone cases, glasses, and accessories.

They sent over the Helm and the Journeyman models, which are both right around $100 each, however, this is not a sponsored post, below are my honest opinions of the watches that they sent over.

Journeyman by tmbr.
First impressions, the watches arrived in branded cardboard gift boxes, nothing you would keep, but then again for the price point, the packaging was better than I expected. Similar watches that have been sent to me were just in cloth bags or simply wrapped in bubble wrap in an envelope.

The watches both had a nice weight, the back case, clasp, and leather watch band all carried the tmbr. logo. The quality overall of the watchband was good, however, the bands were both extremely small, measuring the bands they were just around 7.5 inches, which translates into a ladies X-Long. While I wear the watches it was on the very last hole meaning the strap would pop out of the retaining loop on the band.

Watch Band Measuring Chart:

ShortRegularLongX-Long
Men's Leather6 "
8 "
8.5 "9 "
Ladies Leather5 "6.5 "7.5 "8 "

To remedy the issue I swapped in a NATO strap in place of the factory leather strap.
Watchbands are measured by the physical length of the band, not including the watch, I generally wear a Long or X-Long depending on the watch case. I checked the tmbr. website and couldn't find any measurements for the standard band length, so if you have larger wrists just be aware you might need to order a different strap. Check out my story on how to install a NATO strap.

Once I had a chance to wear the watches in my everyday use I was pleasantly surprised. The Journeyman quickly became my daily watch for the last month, it is super lightweight with a wooden case, and I like the date feature. Paired with the red, white, and blue NATO strap it also garnered a lot of compliments. The Helm is much more substantial with a walnut face and gold stainless steel construction, even though they are both 40mm cases, it had a much more substantial feel.

Both watches feature Japanese Miyota Quartz movements, which are manufactured by Citizen, so tmbr. did choose a decent quartz movement. Overall the quality of the watch itself is good and I would compare it to the MVMT brand as far fashion watches go. The wood does add an interesting element that sets tmbr. apart from most of its rivals, especially the ebony wood case of the Journeyman. You can also have custom engraved text added to your watch at the time of purchase for an additional $10.

For the price the tmbr. watches offer a nice minimalist style and good quality, so long as you have smaller wrists, check out the specs on the watches below.
